about

Aimee, the new single by Faroese-Canadian artist Lena Anderssen, is out world-wide via Songcrafter Music on 6th November.

Aimee is the second single from Lena’s forthcoming 6th album, recorded in Los Angeles in the spring of 2018 with the legendary English recording engineer, Geoff Emerick, known for his pioneering work with The Beatles on albums like Revolver, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band and Abbey Road. The album, State of the Land, drops in March 2021, and is the last full album Emerick worked on before his untimely death.

Mixed by Grammy nominated mix engineer Marc Daniel Nelson and mastered by Eric Boulanger and Jett Galindo at The Bakery in Los Angeles, State of the Land will be yet another landmark step in Lena’s unwavering musical journey from being discovered in her early twenties while singing to herself waiting tables at a coffee shop in the Faroese capital, Torshavn, to playing international tours, supporting the likes of Roxy Music, Beth Hart and Xavier Rudd, drawing press comparisons with KT Tunstall, Tift Merritt and even Joni herself, and having her songs feature in major TV series like Scrubs, Felicity and Nikita.

Written by Lena, her long-term producer and musical collaborator, Niclas Johannesen, and Danish Grammy winning producer Oli Poulsen, Aimee recalls the heady upbeat days of In My Tribe–era 10,000 Maniacs or the poppier side of REM. It was recorded at LAFX Studio in Los Angeles with Matt Chamberlain (Bob Dylan, David Bowie, Macy Gray) on drums, Matt Rollings (Lyle Lovett, Mark Knopfler, Mary Chapin Carpenter) on Hammond organ, Jon Sosin and Niclas Johannesen on guitars, and Jóhannus á Rógvu Joensen on bass.

lyrics

Aimee
Anderssen/Johannesen/Poulsen

Aimee’s looking out through the window
She’s waiting for the world to be safe again
She’s noticing a change in the weather
Could this be a sign she thinks
Could this be a sign

Aimee counts five crows and a sparrow
She’s looking for the one with the broken wing
The sky is wide but the streets are so narrow
And in her own head she can see
The consequence of being Aimee

She’s waiting for whenever or whether
She’s caught between the never and now
She’s standing on the edge of something better
Still she feels the weight on her shoulder
The sun is out
But the winds are colder

Aimee knows her way through the meadow
And one day soon she’ll rise and she’ll make a move
But until then she’ll dance with her shadow
One step forward, one step
One step forward, one

She’s waiting for whenever or whether
She’s caught between the never and now
She’s standing on the edge of something better
Still she feels the weight on her shoulder
The sun is out
But the winds are colder
